Partnership with Sale Sharks brings FREE walking rugby to Halifax

Halifax RUFC has entered into a partnership with Sale Sharks to offer free Walking Rugby sessions every week to anyone who wants to take part.

Running every Wednesday at 6:30 pm, all are invited to come down to Ovenden Park and try a new sport, in a COVID secure way.

Walking Rugby is a slower-paced game of rugby open to all. It is ideal for those who are older or those who cannot play contact rugby anymore. This is a less physical version of touch rugby with adapted laws to suit individual participant needs.

The sessions are aimed to give rugby playing opportunities for those who may have never played rugby before and those who played previously played and cannot play anymore but want to re-engage with rugby at a slower pace. The sessions are a great way to increase your social activity and make friends with like-minded people.

The first session was a great success with a number of current senior players, retired players, and brand new faces stepping onto the pitch with the coaches from Sale. Chairman and former player, Grayham Smith, pulled his boots back on for the first session. He said afterward, 'The session was excellent. I and the other participants thoroughly enjoyed it and it was great to see a wide mix of skills and abilities giving it a go. Coming after our successful Rugby Force Volunteers Weekend and on top of the continuing success of our Senior Men's, Women's, and Mixed Ability sections, I believe that Halifax RUFC truly is a club with the community at its heart, providing rugby playing opportunities for all.'
