Training Thursdays 6-7 pm
Are you looking for an activity that keeps your girl active, builds her resilience, and surrounds her with a supportive community? At Halifax RUFC, our Girls Rugby section offers exactly that.
Rugby is uniquely empowering for girls. It is a sport that celebrates all strengths, shapes, and abilities—whether your daughter is fast, strong, agile, or entirely new to sport, there is a vital position on the team just for her. Our mission is not just to create rugby players, but confident, resilient young women.
Led by Women Who Know the Game
One of the proudest features of our girls' section is our coaching team. All of our coaches and support staff are current or former women’s rugby players who have lived and breathed the sport.
Having female role models at the helm brings incredible benefits to our players:
-
Relatable Role Models: Our coaches have walked the same path. They understand the unique challenges and triumphs girls face in sport, proving firsthand that rugby is a game where women excel and lead.
-
True Understanding of the Female Game: From understanding physical development to fostering team dynamics, our coaches tailor every session specifically to how girls train, learn, and bond.
-
Inspiring the Next Generation: Seeing their coaches lace up their boots or share stories of their own match-day experiences inspires our players to push their boundaries and see a long-term future for themselves in the sport.
Why Halifax Girls Rugby is Great for Your Family
We understand that introducing your child to a new sport—especially a contact sport—can bring questions. Here is what we prioritise above all else:
-
Safety & Expert Coaching First: Our sessions are designed and led by RFU-qualified, DBS-checked coaches. We place a massive emphasis on core skills, fitness, and safe technique (such as proper tackling and falling) before any competitive contact is introduced.
-
Building Unshakeable Confidence: Rugby gives girls a profound sense of what their bodies can achieve. We watch our players grow from hesitant beginners into confident, self-assured young individuals who aren't afraid to take up space and work as a team.
-
A Positive, Inclusive Environment: There are no cliques here. The core values of rugby—Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, and Sportsmanship—are at the heart of everything we do. We cheer each other on, celebrate milestones together, and pick each other up.
-
Friendships for Life: The bond formed in a rugby team is unique. Beyond the pitch, we are a family.
Our Age Groups
We cater to a wide range of age groups, carefully adapting the game to match the physical and emotional development of the players.
-
Year 4 and 5 - known as Under 10's
-
Year 6 and 7 - known as Under 12's
- Year 8 and 9 - known as Under 14's
No Experience Necessary: A huge percentage of our current squad had never even touched a rugby ball before their first taster session. We welcome absolute beginners at every age grade, all year round.
Practical Information for Parents
We want to make joining our club as seamless as possible for your family.
-
Training Sessions: Thursday evenings 6-7 pm
-
Match Days: Sunday mornings during the playing season, but not every week, and there is no pressure to play

What do they need for their first session?
To make it easy, they don't need a full kit to start. Just bring:
-
Comfortable sportswear suitable for the weather (layers are ideal in colder weather).
-
Sturdy trainers are fine whilst they are trying it out to see if they like it
-
A water bottle.
Try It For Free!
Our rugby is currently free for all the girls who play for us. No membership required.
If you have concerns about the cost of Rugby, we have a fund that we can use to ensure that cost is never a barrier. We also have a Pre-Loved Rugby Clothing and Boot Collection with items donated by our womens team, and our very own girls who have grown out of them. Let us know if you would like any further information.
Next Steps
We would love to welcome you down to Ovenden Park. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.
