Result 29 - 5
Halifax faced problems in the second half ; Mods used their knowledge about kicking with the wind and targeting the right hand corner . By way of contrast Halifax failed to perform to their ability with too many dropped passes , loss of possession in the rucks and inability to profit from the numerical factor as two yellow cards were separately issued against Mods .
This was a disappointing result in light of the close score [ three points difference ] at Ovenden Park in October . The underfoot going was very heavy – a factor which could have helped Halifax who were faced with heavier pack and but who found it hard to move the ball wide . Knock ons and some competent home tackling served to stifle attempted attacks. Halifax had the advantage of playing down the significant slope especially into the right corner and exploited that benefit several times in the first 10 minutes . This was achieved by good line out ball and very effective drives . Leeds however had the power and experience to prevent Halifax from scoring . Down the slope Halifax dominated the territory BUT on the limited occasions when Mods broke out , three scores followed .
In due course , that position was reversed when a Halifax forward was red carded not long into the second half . Mods took control and piled on the points although Halifax , in the last quarter, staged a spirited recovery , having battled their way on to the pitches’ upper level . Prolonged possession in the home 22 brought a determined try when captain Callum Bowmer weaved his way close to the line for prop Andy Ingham to force his way over.
This defeat and thereby participation in the reshaped fixture list for the remainder of the Season is thus still open . The result will be published after next week’s games – in which , with no game, Halifax can bring no influence to bear .
